Leave a legacy

Make a lasting difference by leaving a gift in your Will

For almost two decades Norwich Door to Door has provided necessary assistance, transport and care to people whose disabilities and mobility problems curtail their access.   Leaving a legacy is an important way in which you can help ensure we continue to provide much needed freedom and independence to those most in need in Norwich.

A gift in your Will can provide powerful and long lasting impact for us to continue our work.  We have 500 passengers that use our seven buses and a waiting list for potential passengers, your gift could help us reach another 20 or 30 people stranded in their own homes.

Why leave a legacy?

The service we provide helps to support people to lead independent lives and aims to improve social inclusion.

Almost a 1/4 of all individuals and 1/5 of working age individuals in Norwich define themselves as having a long term illness.  While nearly a fifth of disabled people report having difficulties related to their impairment or disability in accessing transport.   These statistics demonstrate that there is a high proportion of people ‘at risk’ of experiencing social isolation in Norwich as they have reduced mobility and are on a low income.

In today’s ever changing climate the finances required to operate our services keep rising, such as the cost of fuel.   Your generous support can help us to continue  reaching out to the most isolated individuals in Norwich.

How to leave a gift in your Will

The following are examples of what you need to write in your Will if you want to include a legacy to Norwich Door to Door:

Wording for a residuary bequest

‘I give my residuary estate to Norwich Door to Door at Room 1.34, Norwich Community Hospital, Bowthorpe Road, Norwich, NR2 3TU (registered as an Industrial and Provident Society for the benefit of The Community number 27814R.Charity Registered with Inland Revenue no. X0969/93) for its charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorized officer will be sufficient discharge to my executors.’

Wording for a percuniary bequest

‘I give to Norwich Door to Door at Room 1.34, Norwich Community Hospital, Bowthorpe Road, Norwich, NR2 3TU (registered as an Industrial and Provident Society for the benefit of The Community number 27814R.Charity Registered with Inland Revenue no. X0969/93) the sum of £…… (free of all taxes) for its charitable purposes, and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or authorized officer will be sufficient discharge to my executor/s’

If you already have a Will then you can add a codicil (a document which specifies alterations to your will.)  We would respectfully suggest that your legacy reads:

I give the sum of £……………… (or specify a share of residue) to Norwich Door to Door, whose address is Room 1.34, Norwich Community Hospital, Bowthorpe Road, Norwich NR2 3TU, UK (Registered as an Industrial and Provident Society for the benefit of The Community number 27814R.Charity Registered with Inland Revenue no. X0969/93)  for its general purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Honorary Treasurer or the other proper officer of Norwich Door to Door for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge of the said legacy.

If you consider making or updating your Will and leaving a legacy to Norwich Door to Door, we strongly advise you to obtain legal advice.

Glossary of Terms

What about tax?

Inheritance tax is the tax that is paid on your estate when you die, as well as on some assets that you may have given away during your lifetime.  If your estate is higher than £325,000, then inheritance tax will be required at 40%.

Gifts to registered charities are generally exempt from inheritance and capital gains taxes.  A gift to our charity would therefore greatly benefit disabled children, adults and older people facing isolation in Norwich with minimum burden to your estate.
